Almost Sisters is about three women who meet up at an Brigham Young University’s Education Week. Erin is a new convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and hopes that this conference will help her to be a “real” Mormon. Juneau, named for the town, hopes to rediscover herself. Willadene, the Relief Society President extraordinaire, hopes to learn new things that will impress all of the ladies back home. They all happen to stay with Gabby; someone they all feel is an example of a truly great woman.
Connected by their love for romance books, the women promise to keep in touch after their week’s vacation is through. Their friendship blossoms through letters, phone calls, and the occasional visit. They help and support each other through the life triumphs and trials that come their way.
I enjoyed Almost Sisters. The characters in this book are deep and well-rounded. I am sure that when you read this book you will find a character that you most identify with. It is a great book for a women’s book club to read, as it is filled with themes that we all struggle with. It shows the balancing act between a husband and wife, the feelings of guilt associated with motherhood, and many, many more.
